The GT Story

WE ARE GT

Since its beginnings in South Carolina in the 1970s, GT has remained true to its BMX heritage and its role as an MTB pioneer, constantly seeking to harness innovation to create bikes which are both high-performance and fun to ride.

Deeming BMX frames to not be durable enough, Gary Turner decides to use the skills he acquired from welding drag racing cars to create a high-performance frame for his son. His creation was the first ever GT bike and was a hit.

The brand was officially created two years later with a simple vision: to help riders push the envelope of what’s possible on two wheels by creating the most reliable, innovative frames.

Fast and durable, GT frames became synonymous with winning, bringing home more BMX race wins than any other bike brand of the era.

15 years after the creation of the first GT frame, GT set about designing highly innovative, high-performance MTBs.

The first full suspension MTBs appear. GT made a significant contribution to developing the technology and making it the standard.

GT launched a new ultra-reliable and efficient suspension system: the i-Drive.

GT continued to test its innovations, including the world’s first downhill bike with a production gearbox design, the IT-1.

GT continued to adopt new technologies, including production 29’rs and a new proprietary carbon frame construction method.

Today: GT is focused on supporting the best athletes and teams to help inspire and develop the technologies that allow us to bring you the best bikes.
