The road bike frame epitomises the body of your racing bike! To it are fitted the equipment (such as the wheels), the components (drivetrain, brakes), plus all the other peripheral components (such as the stem, bar, seat post and saddle). Its design significantly determines the overall behaviour (stiffness, response etc.) of your machine. The shape (volume and geometry) of the frame’s tubes (saddle, head, top, and down tubes, plus the seat and chain stays) have significantly evolved over the last fifteen/twenty years, due to the manufacturers’ quest for aerodynamics. Their material has also changed during the same period with the advent of carbon, for its weight saving and strength compared to alloy, titanium and steel.
