The whole is equipped with a number of different technologies depending on the level of performance sought, type of riding and regularity. The outsole is usually made from nylon or polyamide, or a composite or fully 100% carbon sole. A full carbon sole will provide the optimal stiffness for power transfer to the pedals and then on to the rest of the drivetrain. Carbon is also lighter than nylon etc. There’s a tread on the outsole to assist when walking and particularly in muddy conditions.
