Protections Technology

Protective equipment

This protective equipment is an essential kit bag item for any pilot who is after an intense session, whether on a BMX or mountain bike. Knee guards, elbow pads, back protectors..., this cycling protective equipment, combined with a helmet, preserve body parts that are the most exposed during a fall. These products are tasked with a double challenge as they have to provide maximum protection whilst being flexible enough to not hinder movement when cycling. Therefore, manufacturers use ultra intelligent materials that are not restricted to sporting equipment as they are also used in industry or for military equipment.

D3O Technology

The D3O technology is a must-have piece of protective equipment for many types of activities, including various sports (skiing, motorbiking, MTB, etc.). The British company, D3O has built a blend of polymers to create an intelligent liner, which uses memory foam and adapts to multiple demands.

  • How d3O works?

The material is highly flexible and thus doesn’t hinder a rider’s movement but, upon the slightest impact, the molecules harden to ensure that shocks are efficiently absorbed.

    • A Shock Absorption
    • B Outer Fabric
    • C Inner Layer
    • D Molecules flow freely > Soft & flexible material
    • E Molecules lock > Molecules flow freely
    • F Absorb & dissipate Impact energy > Returns to flexible state

SAS-TEC Technology

Designed for use in sports which require efficient protective equipment, such as motorcycling, skiing and MTB, the technology developed by German company SAS-Tec is based on a shape memory foam with viscous and elastic properties which can absorb a succession of large shocks more than 50% more efficiently that traditional rigid protection systems.

  • Furthermore, this flexible foam does not impede a rider’s movements in any way.

    • A Soft & flexible
    • B Locks on shock
    • C Returns to flexible state

Fox F3 Technology

Fox chose to launch its own protection system, known as F3. It is made of polymer and received the EC EN1621-1 level 1 certificate, thus guaranteeing a minimum level of protection in the event of a fall. The F3 is perfectly suited to all body shapes to keep you comfortable and guarantee optimal freedom of movement. Finally, Fox F3 protective equipment is easy to remove so it is easier to wash and lasts longer.

POC VPD System

The Swedish brand developed the VPD technology (Visco-Elastic Polymer Dough) to provide maximum protection for pilots. The technology, made of visco-elastic polymer, keeps protective equipment comfortable while ensuring high levels of performance. When worn, it follows the pilot’s movements perfectly thanks to its flexibility. However, in the event of an impact, it hardens and absorbs impact impeccably.

  • This technology is used in three ranges of protective equipment:

The VPD system, which provides protection and great freedom of movement.

The VPD 2.0, which provides the brand's highest level of protection.

The VPD Air, which is the lightest and most breathable system and provides a good level of protection.

The VPD System technology can be found on vests, elbow pads, knee guards, shin guards and shorts made by the manufacturer.

The D3O technology is a must-have piece of protective equipment for many types of activities, including various sports (skiing, motorbiking, MTB, etc.). Leatt 3DF Technology

South African brand Leatt used its unique and renowned expertise, gained from its research laboratory and tests, to develop its own pilot protection technology, 3DF.
