Nukeproof was founded in 1990 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA. From the beginning, its founder
John Muenzenmeyer wanted to create innovative and attractive bikes of flawless quality for the
then burgeoning mountain bike market. The brand quickly distinguished itself by its choice of
materials that were not yet widely used, such as titanium and carbon fibre. It was very
successful in the 1990’s.

In 2004, new life was breathed into Nukeproof when the Northern Irish downhill racer, and fan of
the brand’s bikes, Michael Cowan, bought the company with the aim of restoring it to its former
glory. He immediately enlisted the help of passionate and experienced riders to help him develop
new products.

In 2007, Nukeproof repositioned itself on the market with a range of titanium mountain bike
components, before concentrating on a gravity and race-oriented MTB range. One of the objectives
was to design race bikes such as the Mega-Avalanche. And after 3 years in development, Nukeproof
brought out the well-known Mega.

In 2010, the Chain Reaction Cycles-Intense DH team, managed by former world champion Nigel Page,
chose Nukeproof to compete with on the World Tour. This partnership brought about Nukeproof’s
first DH frame, the Scalp. It was the perfect way in which to highlight the brand’s know-how,
putting the bike builder very much in the spotlight.
Sam Hill
The valuable feedback and assistance from its pro riders, such as Australian Sam Hill, allows the
brand’s R & D team to design winning formulas.
Sam possesses an impressive track record, and consequently has established himself as an
important player at Nukeproof.
He has raced on the World Tour since he was 16 and has won 5 World DH titles, and 3 Enduro
championships.
He has raced exclusively for Nukeproof since 2014 and his input in the brand’s product
development is vital. His experience is a real asset for the brand to meet the needs of the most
discerning riders.
