A new type of rider is emerging - one who loves the freedom and exploration on which gravel culture was founded, but who also has a desire to ride hard, go all out and push not only geographical limits, but personal ones as well. This limit requires a new kind of gravel machine, one designed not for roaming the trails but for racing.
For these athletes, Cervelo has designed the Áspero for pure, unadulterated speed, ready to conquer finish lines, KOMs, PRs and FKTs. A bike designed without limits, for the riders who want to test them. It's stiff - classic and sporty - and performs the way you'd expect a road bike to off-road. They think that makes sense, and it's what their goal was when they added bigger tyres to the existing frames and installed aftermarket forks to allow for a 40mm tyre up front.
The flip chip in the fork - they call it the trail mixer - ensures that the trail measurement remains consistent whether you choose 700c or 650b tyres. This keeps the bike's personality and handling characteristics when you switch from medium width to full width. There are as many different ways to ride gravel as there are gravel bikes these days, but if you want to be on the start line, keep up with the top group and fight for victory, the Áspero is the bike to do it.
Two-position adjustment
Trail - the response of the front wheel to the rider's input - is the most critical factor in high-speed handling. The ability to adjust trail with the two-position "trail mixer" to balance across the extreme range of tyre sizes provides a consistent riding experience.
Multiple configurations
The bike can be adapted to different wheel/tire combinations to maximise control. They have designed the bike to comfortably fit most 700x42 or 650x49 tyre/wheel combinations. Of course, there are variables - rim width, tyre casing/tread depth - that affect the ultimate tyre clearance.
Versatility
The Aspero allows you to choose the tyre that best suits the terrain, so you are always in control.
Balanced handling
Stiffness and handling work together to make the bike trails predictable, responding instantly to critical pedal and bracing inputs. The fork's Trail Mixer adjusts the trail to reduce the shock to handling when switching between most popular tyre sizes.
