The lightest aero frame in the world
With victories from cobblestone Tour stages to mass sprints to the World Championships, the S3 is Thor Hushovd’s favorite bike. Aero road bikes seem to be a “trend” nowadays, but for Cervélo and its riders, they are the essence of what we do. They offer the advantages of reduced drag while preserving everything else you expect in a good road bike. Not an easy balance to strike, but 15 years of experience doing that certainly helps.
The S3 is part of the S-series, our all-round models equally at home in fast solos and hilly terrain. With just a few grams more than the R-series, it offers a true aero advantage.
Frameset includes:
Fork: 3T Funda Team.
Headset: FSA IS 2 Carbon.
Seatpost: Aero SL.
Weight: 1000 g.
Experience:
Reduced aero drag to save energy.
A low geometry to put yourself in an aero position.
Proper road bike performance, because an aero focus shouldn’t compromise lightness, BB/torsional stiffness or comfort.
A large volume and fluent form align the carbon fibers with the complex loads in this area.
Smartwall for Carbon
p { margin-bottom: 0.21cm; } The strength and stiffness of carbon depend on the size, shape, material and fiber direction of each of the 300+ pieces of carbon in a frame.
TrueAero shapes
p { margin-bottom: 0.21cm; Long-tail airfoils with a 3:1 ratio or better create the lowest drag. Truncation can be useful, for example if flow interacts with another object. Cervélo was the first to use truncation!
S3 aero seatstays
Special shape. Profiled desing in the direction of the airflow (horizontal). Different shape on the inside than on the outside (to deal with the spinning wheel). Only 10 mm wide for maximum compliance (within reason), minimal weight & frontal area.
Aero chainstays
Used on the S3 and P4. Especially effective in cross winds.
Aero headtube
p { margin-bottom: 0.21cm; } The narrow section between the bearing reduces the frontal area and thereby the aero drag (which is linearly related to the frontal area). Narrowing this area also improves the headtube's aspect ratio to get closer to a 3:1 airfoil.
Internal Cable Stops ICS3
With ICS3, Cervélo continues to lead the industry in the internal cables. No housing inside the frame gives crisper shifting & 200 g less weight. New stainless stell internals with replaceable Teflon liners further reduce the friction p { margin-bottom: 0.21cm; } .
