25 upgrades including a better IBT rear brake, ICS3 cable routing, more secure seatpost clamping and improved downtube & seattube shapes help it to remain the fastest in our latest test of all the newest TT/Tri bikes.
Faster than ever while easier to set-up and maintain: a golden combination. The P4 is part of the P-series, made for the timed solo effort from prologue to the Race Across America and from sprint triathlon to Ironman.
Includes:
Headset: FSA IS2 Carbon.
Seatpost: Aero TT.
Experience:
Cervelo’s tried a true geometry, putting the rider in a fast and comfortable position.
Aerodynamic design to reduce drag resistance and increase speed.
Handling and stiffness characteristics straight from the road models.
TrueAero shapes
Long-tail airfoils with a 3:1 ratio or better create the lowest drag. Truncation can be useful, for example if flow interacts with another object. Cervélo was the first to use truncation. (P4 bottle area).
P4 aero seatstays
TrueAero shapes in the direction of the airflow (horizontal). Mininum legal width (10 mm). Integrated "shoulder" intersection (parallel to the airflow) with the seattube for minimal frontal area. Very difficult to produce, hence rarely seen on even the most expensive TT/Tri bikes.
Aero headtube
The narrow section between the bearings reduce the frontal area and thereby the aero drag (which is linerarly related to the frontal area). Narrowing this area also improves the headtube's aspect ratio (same gusset lenght divided by a smaller width renders a higher ratio) to get closer to a 3:1 airfoil.
Internal Cable Stops ICS3
With ICS3, Cervélo continues to lead the industry in internal cables. No housing inside the frame gives crisper shifting & 200g less weight. New stainless steel internals with replaceable Teflon liners further reduce the friction.
P4 rear wheel cutout
The P4 rear wheel cutout has roughly the same size as the P3 cutout, but with two distinct differences: The front of the seattube is truncated near the botton to integrate the water bottle (Cervélo or the other aero models). Near the top, the seattube integrates with the seatstay's "shoulder" design.
Integrated hydration
The shape of the P4 water bottle is fully integrated in the frame shape. It creates one, long airfoil shape, which actually lowers the drag compared to having no bottle at all. The design was banned by the UCI for decreasing drag, but it's fully legal in all triathlons. For UCI races, an Elite onr Arundel aero bottle in that area is almost as fast.
Dropped downtube
Moving the downtube closer to the front wheel allows for a smooth airflow from wheel to frame. The downtube has a full TrueAero shape (no cutout) because the wheel is almost never exactly in line with the downtube (constant steering corrections). The dropped downtube also fairs in the space behind the fork crown to reduce turbulence.
Integrated seatpost clamp
The integrated clamp is invisible to the airflow. The seatpost is aerodynamically integrated, but structurally separate. This offers you the maximum seat height adjustability, easier travel & resizing/resale, lower weight compared to integrated seatmasts. Upgrades from the P3
